You just can't ignore shoes that have the words '4 the cool people' in its label. Of course, the expectations are a little higher because they have to be as cool as they claim to be.

Okay, so in reality these Steve Madden 4 The Cool People shoes aren’t just 'or the cool people'. These shoes are actually styles which were handpicked by Steve Madden FOR the shoe label The Cool People.

Not a lot of information about this new shoe brand is available except for the short bit that they're part of the ALDO collection. We compared shoes from The Cool People with shoes from Aldo and honestly, we didn't see enough of a difference to warrant the creation of a new and separate brand.

The difference we DID see is in the brand's description which says that 'The Cool People is a cutting edge brand who is committed to bettering the world through charitable contributions… The Cool People is all about giving back. A portion of their sales goes directly to charity.'

So, Aldo had to create a sub-brand just to give to charity?

Anyway, Steve Madden's choice of shoe styles is undoubtedly influenced by this season's 70s trend. The Cool People collection actually only has a handful of these styles but Steve Madden chose to highlight these boho, earthy chic styles.

Here are the five pairs of shoes chosen by Steve Madden for the first Steve Madden 4 The Cool People collection.

http://mezing.com/blog/2009/10/merkury-innovations-portable-alarm-clock-radio-for-ipod-iphone/

I like to wake up to my favorite music in the morning. Since I'm not a morning person, I need something happy to get my day going. Up to this point, I've been using the alarm clock function of my iPod, connected to a pair of computer speakers, but this setup is less than ideal for two reasons: it adds more cords to our headboard, of which we already have enough, and since the alarm doesn't have a "weekday" setting, the iPod will start even on Saturday when not connected to anything if I forget to turn it off.

So we decided to get an iPod alarm clock. Being, ahem, frugal, we picked up the Merkury Portable Alarm Clock for iPod, as it seemed to have the features we were looking for, namely, it works through the dock connector and needs no external cord. It also charges the iPod, which is a bonus but not an uncommon feature.

The small stereo speakers give good enough sound quality for a wake-up call or listening to music in bed before drifting off. The problem is that you can't do both. You have to set the alarm switch to either "iPod" or "Auto" (or "Off" or "Radio"--yes, it does have a radio so you can listen for school closings without getting out of bed.), but if you have it set to "iPod" to listen to music or watch a quick video before going to sleep, you have to remember to switch it to "Auto," or it won't wake you. Well, I like watching a short video clip before going to bed, and given that I'm usually pretty tired by then, I usually forget to switch it before bed. I've kept my old buzzer alarm clock to make sure I get up in time, but the whole point of this device was to clear space on the headboard, not add more.

The form factor is small, which is a plus. The whole thing is about the width of two iPods, which is much smaller than most I've seen, and it can work via battery or AC power, so the "Portable" in the name is an accurate description.

The clock has a backlight that can be activated via the snooze button, so you can't glance at the LCD screen in the dark and see the time. I personally prefer LED clocks for this reason. I also found that the "snooze" button doesn't snooze--it turns the alarm off completely, so if you're a clock swatter like I am, this will get you into trouble.

The volume level is plenty loud for evening listening, but when the alarm starts, the volume level is reset to a lower level, so make sure you're using a loud song to wake to. Why it doesn't stay loud is completely beyond my comprehension.

Overall, I'm not impressed with this device. If you can deal with all the quirks, it's an inexpensive way to wake up to your favorite playlist, but personally, I'm looking for something a bit more foolproof.

With regards to range of functions, admittedly the Sony W202 isn’t an iPod with playlists, podcast functions, etc. However its main fuctions are as easy to us as it is to wear, here are the main technical features:
2GB storage holds up to 500 tracks
13.5mm EX Series headphones for clear and powerful sound, extreme comfort and high quality audio performance
Battery life of up to 12 hours as well as 90 minutes playback time from a 3 minute quick charge
Supported audio formats include mp3, AAC and WMA (DRM)
Music Searching Methods
ZAPPIN™ technology for quick song searches: Listen to the first few seconds of the chorus to find your favourite tracks
Repeat or Shuffle and Repeat

As mentioned above, the controls are all on the right hand earpiece, with a multifunction jog dial and a volume controller. The inside edge sees a shuffle slider too, which you can engage for overall random music play. The jog dial handles everything you’ll want to do. A simple click acts as both play and pause, a sweep forward skips forward, a sweep back goes back. Overall, the W202’s functions and controls are extremely easy and simple to learn.

Some of you may be wondering what ZAPPIN is, Sony has created this piece of software and equipped it into the jog dial of the W202. In a way ZAPPIN counters the disadvantage of the W202’s lack of display. When ZAPPIN is activated with a long press of the jog dial. When activated, it acts as a way of quickly finding tunes you’ve put into the W202’s 2GB flash memory. Once activated, it will play you a short snippet of the song, if you want to listen to that, then a quick press resumes play. Its possible to change the length of clip between 4 and 15 seconds, depending on your preference. What’s more, if you turn off the player in ZAPPIN mode, it will startup in ZAPPIN mode too, so go straight into track skipping.

While its true, there is only one playback mode, we don’t believe there have been any compromise in soud quality. Music is played at a range of satisfactory volumes, which should be adequate for running outdoors and gym users indoors. The W202’s built in earphones in our view were quite capable of playing music with moderate bass, in fact, its music play is slightly “bassy”. Whilst this may not be an adjustable function, it should not affect you too much if you’re an e-book listening. Overall, the W202 deals great crisp, clarity to music play with an automatic added touch of bass and should generally suit whatever it is that you’re playing while you’re on the treadmill!

Practicality

Though many of the features and design of the Sony NWZ-W202 have been completed in a practial way that would most suit active and sporty users, we could not come to an agreement whether the W202 would be practical and suitable for “regular” users who enjoy listening to abit of music while visiting the shops as it would appear quite awkward.

Sony boasts that using mini-USB (through the cable stand included) a 3 minute charge will give you 90 minutes of listening and a full charge will give you about 12 hours listening, again this further reinforces the convenience that the W202 has been designed to provide. Yes, the W202 certainly does have an advantage over the iPods for example, it is much less bulkier, lighter in weight and even if compared to the new iPod Shuffle, the W202 does not have earphone lines that act as the only source for music control, which would tangle about. Perhaps it would be best concluded that the W202 certainly has obvious advantages over current market portable music / MP3 player designs but it is not without its own shortcomings.

Pros

Sophisticated, practical sporty design
Lightweight and extremely comfortable for an all-in-one music player
Package includes different sizes of earbuds for best fit
We enjoyed the thought that Sony had put into even the smallest details such as the on/off mechanism of the music player itself
Sufficient music player functions as an entertainment source primarily focussed for sporting
Excellent battery features, perfect for instant on the go
Generally speaking, if you don’t mind its design and are looking for an iPod alternative with better sound quality, the W202 would be a good candidate

Cons

Fixed non-upgradable flash memory of 2GB will cost £59.00 (Product Page)
Cannot be used as an alternative pair of headphones (lack of bluetooth for example) for other devices despite its great comfort
Controls located on the right earpiece may be too small for those with large hands

http://mezing.com/blog/2009/08/what-is-rise-of-your-jeans-or-pants/

So, you are wondering what the heck the rise is on a pair of jeans or pants? Exactly what does Low Rise mean? Is it the same as Low Waist? Here are some answers to these questions as I have come to understand them...

The rise is an important thing to understand. It is the place that the jeans sit on the hip/waist. When I am listing jeans, I measure the rise from the center point between the legs up to the top of the waist band. This gives me the rise.

These are general guidelines and seem to be across the board, but always ask the seller if you are uncertain of the way the jeans will fit.

5-8" rise usually signifies that the jeans are low rise jeans, which will sit low on the waist, more on the hip. They may be low rise or ultra low rise...they will sit well below your belly button.

If the jeans have a 9-11" rise, they are considered to be mid rise or just below the waist. These jeans will generally sit just under your belly button.

Anything over 12" is usually a jean/pant that sits at the waist, above the belly button.

Some jean/pant manufacturers use the terms rise and some use waist. Old Navy has categories like, Ultra Low Waist, At Waist, Just Below Waist. Gap uses Low Rise. Levi's have Mid Rise and Superlow. There are as many ways to describe jeans as there are jean manufacturers.

Different Manufacturer's have Different Guidelines and Fits for their Jeans...Always Ask the Seller to Clarify the Style, Measurements and Fit of the Jeans if You Are Uncertain!

Please note that I use the word "jeans", but this also applies to pants, shorts and capris.

These knives are generally produced by compacting Zirconia powder using high pressure presses which apply a pressure of around 300 tons to produce blade shaped blanks. These blanks are very brittle and fragile which can be shattered by a slight blow and special binders are used to retain the shape of the blank until the firing process. Like all ceramics these are consolidated into a dense and strong ceramic by solid state sintering at approximately 1400 degrees centigrade for 5–12 hours in a high temperature furnace. The result is a very hard and blunt blade which needs to be sharpened to get the desired cutting edge. The blades are sharpened by grinding the edges with a diamond dust coated grinding wheel.

Zirconia is very hard; it ranks 8.5 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, compared to 6 to 6.5 for hardened steel, and 10 for diamond, giving a very hard edge that rarely needs sharpening. However, when sharpening is needed, ceramic blades cannot be resharpened the same way as steel blades, which are often sharpened with a ceramic whetstone. To sharpen the edge of a blade a material harder than the one that is being sharpened is required, and ceramic knives are usually sharpened with industrial grade diamond sharpeners.

Pure zirconium oxide on the other hand is restricted from broad industrial use due to its polymorphism. This means from room temperature to high temperatures it goes through three phases: monoclinic, tetragonal, and cubic. The volume change on cooling to the monoclinic phase is associated with a large volume change, which often causes failure of the component. To alleviate this effect, additives are utilized to stabilize the high temperature phases to eliminate this volume change. Magnesium, calcium and yttrium are often used to stabilize the zirconium oxide for which yttrium provides the best mechanical properties yielding the characteristic mother of pearl appearance. The highest strength and more importantly toughest zirconia is produced with 3 mol% yttrium oxide yielding partially stabilized zirconia. This material consists of a mixture of tetragonal and cubic phase with a bending strength of nearly 1200MPa.

Ceramic knives will not rust, leading to their use by SCUBA divers. They are also nonconductive and nonmagnetic, which can be useful for bomb disposal operations. Their chemical inertness to both acids and alkalis and their ability to retain a cutting edge far longer than forged metal knives, makes them a very good culinary tool for slicing and cutting through boneless meat, vegetables and fruits. Since they are very rigid they cannot be used for chopping, cutting bones or frozen foods or prying open things, which may cause the cutting edge to chip off or the blade to break free from the handle. The tips of these knives are resistant to rolling and pitting but may break when dropped to the ground.

Several brands also offer a black blade made by an extra firing or sintering via hot isostatic pressing (HIP). This process turns the ZrO2 into zirconium carbide (ZrC). The transformation to zirconium carbide improves the toughness of the blade, the key limitation to using ceramics in knife blades.

Ceramic knives present a conceptual problem to the security industry since ceramics are not picked up by metal detectors. To solve this problem, many manufacturers of non-military knives include a quantity of metal in each knife to ensure they are detectable with standard equipment. Ceramic knives can be detected by extremely high frequency scanners (i.e. Millimeter wave scanner), although (as of 2006) these scanners are not yet in widespread use.

,D1A quick search on the internet and you’ll find just about every case and cooling manufacturer with their own notebook cooler. More often we’re bombarded with features we don’t necessarily need when it comes to notebook cooling. Cooler Master has taken a step back and returned to the basics.

What sets the Cooler Master D1 apart from everything else is the low cost and simplicity of the design. Gone are the features of having eight additional USB ports, a built in keyboard, adjustable height and fan control. The Cooler Master offers a very simple raised perforated platform with two fans for cooling powered by a single USB cord.
